Poet Laureate Archive 3: "The Modern Tartan"
The Modern Tartan
Now I finally
got it right
With blue and green
so fine
Just like Phil Smith
wanted it
His original design
The colors leap right
off the bolt
The caps are
natty too
The ties and scarves are bright as day
The shawls deep
green and blue
When I lay them
side to side
The ancient and
the new
You must admit they both look fine
I’m not sure what
to do
Peter wears an
ancient kilt
You know he
wears it proud
Patricia’s skirt
she made herself
With ancient not
too loud
Phil Smith came to
visit us
He designed our
Vineyard plaid
I must abide his
lighter choice
He’s gets testy
when he’s mad
I think I’ll have the
Scottish Mill
Make a batch of
both the shades
Because in the end
the truth remains
We can sell out
all that’s made
So go and tell your
friends and family
That MV Tartan
gear’s around
Get your ties and
scarves and flashers
Wear ‘em proudly
round the town
